  • Hotel Le Calette, situated in a splendid little corner of Sicily, in a bay not far from Cefalù, due to its pleasant position on the sea and the restful greenery of its park, and more still to the uncontaminated Madonie Park, bestows a wonderful sense of relaxation on its guests. A mere 2 kms from Cefalù’s historical centre, the hotel enjoys a spectacular panoramic position; on the one side the “Rocca” (a massive calcareous rock) that rises above and dominates the town, and on the other the tourist port and the sea dominated by the silhouettes of rocks that jut out of it.

Hotel Le Calette is characterized by the originality of its Mediterranean-style buildings and by the way it fits naturally into the surrounding environment. The swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, private beach and children’s playground, can all be found in Hotel Le Calette’s beautiful grounds, which cover an area of more than 12,000 sq.m.

There are diverse rooms, some of which have terraces overlooking the sea and others, on the ground floor, which face the sea. All the rooms are equipped with a mini bar, safe, satellite TV and Sky TV card, hair dryer, telephone and air conditioning. The hotel also features Suites and Junior Suites overlooking the sea, which include bedroom, bathroom, Jacuzzi and terrace.

Pasha Bulker – a huge freighter grounded in Australia

A 820-foot-long coal freighter sits aground close to Newcastle, Australia – pushed into the sand bank by the storm swell and extreme winds. (more info)
Some of the photographs look like they’d been photoshopped – so unreal is the combination of a beached ship and suburban golf courses and houses.

Grant is a South Africa-born, self-taught photographer, who has taken his passion for the ocean and the natural world and created breathtaking seascapes and landscapes that have become sought-after works of art. Shooting the legendary waves of Oahu’s infamous North Shore from the water, Grant’s photos capture dramatic moments of power and chaos and distill them down to serene, contemplative scenes. Even among the madness, he finds time to pause and compose a lasting image. Details of wind and water are frozen into magnificent portraits of waves, viewed from above, below, and inside the curl. His fine art photos have been exhibited in New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Newport Beach, with recent shows selling out.

    The Place:
    Puro Beach

    The Scene:
Perched atop a sandy promontory with 180-degree views of the sea near Puerto Banus, this beachside spin-off of the acclaimed Puro Beach in Mallorca offers an all-day sanctuary for the spiritually evolved and fun-inclined. Guests begin arriving at dawn, as gentle meditation tunes pulsate through the sound system for those on hand for 11am yoga, Taichi and spa treatments followed by a casual breakfast.

As the sun hits midday all the yoga posers get to show-off their bodily results as house DJs spin progressive house and guests soak-up the sun on terrace sun beds while noshing on summer salads, fresh smoothies and ceviche plates. The terrace pool is rectangular in space surrounded in stone tiles with black sun lounger and Balearic sunshades as well as nearby row of cabanas. The beach offers additional lounge seating but with slower waiter service, albeit with chiseled abs and short swim trunks.

Dinner is a more serious food affair with inside dining room or poolside terrace option offering sashimi platters, NY steaks and seafood platters. Additionally, there is a sleek all-white bar with lounge that hosts shoulder season DJ events and post-season parties. By late night the Marbella beauties rise from their dinners and kick off an evening of champagne toasting and all-night dancing under the stars till 3am.
